Young people constitute the majority

eToro, established in 2007 trading platform for retail investors around the world. In addition to the traditional securities transactions, eToro introduced the cryptocurrency as a tradable asset on its platform in 2017.

eToro collected data from March 2017 to February 2018, which provides an overview of which groups of the population invest in cryptocurrency, and the degree of their investment experience.

According to eToro,

and are either students or are engaged in sales, marketing, information technology and financial services.

Despite their risk appetite, these young investors continue to invest their portfolios mainly in the most popular coins in the market: BitcoinRipple, and Ethereum.

It is interesting that portfolios grow to a greater extent among older investors. From these data, the oldest age group (55+) holds the majority of Bitcoin Cash, NEO and Stellar compared to younger groups – this is in contrast to a typical investor who is prone to risk.

Inexperienced, but bold cryptocurrency investors

As a developing industry, both in the field of application and in investment, the cryptocurrency attracts a wide range of users with varying degrees of experience.

BUT STILL MOST OF THEM CONSIDER THEMSELVES TO BE NEWCOMERS

Those who have a lot of experience (intermediate or professional knowledge) constitute a minority of the total number of users of the cryptocurrency trade.

This lack of experience indicates that most novice investors are unlikely to see huge profits. However, according to eToro, it becomes clear that most users do have a positive return on their investment on certain coins.

The overwhelming majority, namely, more than 90% of investors in the cryptocurrency are men.
