eToro, established in 2007 trading platform for retail investors around the world. In addition to the traditional securities transactions, eToro introduced the cryptocurrency as a tradable asset on its platform in 2017.
eToro collected data from March 2017 to February 2018, which provides an overview of which groups of the population invest in cryptocurrency, and the degree of their investment experience.
According to eToro,
MOST INVESTORS IN THE CRYPTOCURRENCy sphere, ARE MEN AGED 18 TO 35 YEARS
and are either students or are engaged in sales, marketing, information technology and financial services.
It is interesting that portfolios grow to a greater extent among older investors. From these data, the oldest age group (55+) holds the majority of Bitcoin Cash, NEO and Stellar compared to younger groups – this is in contrast to a typical investor who is prone to risk.
Inexperienced, but bold cryptocurrency investors
As a developing industry, both in the field of application and in investment, the cryptocurrency attracts a wide range of users with varying degrees of experience.
BUT STILL MOST OF THEM CONSIDER THEMSELVES TO BE NEWCOMERS
Those who have a lot of experience (intermediate or professional knowledge) constitute a minority of the total number of users of the cryptocurrency trade.
This lack of experience indicates that most novice investors are unlikely to see huge profits. However, according to eToro, it becomes clear that most users do have a positive return on their investment on certain coins.
The overwhelming majority, namely, more than 90% of investors in the cryptocurrency are men.
Ripple helps out
Although this information does not disclose the history of investment duration,
THE HIGHEST AVERAGE YIELD SEEMS TO COME FROM INVESTMENTS IN RIPPLE (XRP)
and the largest average loss is associated with investments in Bitcoin Cash (BCH).
At the moment most cryptocurrency investors are young, less experienced men. But as the global development of the cryptocurrency continues, the demographics of investors will also change.
